Literacy: The topic for your writing this week is newspaper reports! Today I would like you to review what a newspaper article is made from – I would suggest finding some examples of newspaper reports and identifying the key parts that are unique to this type of writing such as the title, subtitles, the 5 w’s (who, where, what, when, why) and the use of quotes.
We are aiming for you to write a newspaper report by the end of the week on some GOOD news! This can be made up or real – so have a think!
Year 3: Start to gather quotes from members of your household/people that you have seen recently regarding the newspaper article that you’d like to write. Practise writing using inverted commas around the speech. For a challenge – try using the year 4 vocabulary too!
Year 4: You need to do the same task as the year 3’s, but I’d like you to use words instead of said to describe how the person spoke when you got the quote from them e.g. stated, exclaimed etc! You may also want to add parenthesis (e.g. brackets!) to add extra information as a challenge!
Afternoon activity: History: The Maya Civilisation
For this afternoon’s activity, you are going to create a visual timeline of the significant historical events that happened during the time of the Maya civilisation. https://www.ducksters.com/history/maya/maya_civilization_timeline.php This website might help you with some of the timings- have a discussion/research as to what BC/AD mean. You might want to get a large piece of paper so that you can write down key events, then do a little drawing that represents what happened!
