Happy weekend everyone!
A few days ago, Mrs Horton posted about the daily Letters and Sounds phonics lessons being broadcast every weekday from Monday. These will be a very useful resource to access, as they will be in line with the Letters and Sounds phonics scheme which we follow in school. I just thought it would be helpful to post the link for where you can watch these lessons and give you some guidance on which lessons to access.
They will be uploading 3 daily lessons onto their YouTube channel. Here is a link for the Youtube channel and a video that explains a bit more about what the sessions will be like and why they’re important.
The lesson schedule will be as follows:
My guidance is as follows:
- If your child is a confident EYFS reader and can segment and blend words with digraphs (2 letter sounds, such as sh, ur, ai and ee) independently, watch the 10 am session for a recap of Phase 3 sounds and then follow it with the 10.30 a.m. session.
- If your child needs more support reading words with digraphs, but can confidently read cvc words (words made up of 3 single letter sounds only, such as cat, dog, mop) independently, then stick with the 10 am phonics lesson only.
- If your child needs support to segment and blend cvc words i.e. cat, tap, mop, or is still unsure about some single letter sounds, then stick to the 11 am phonics lesson.
- Year 1 children should be confident with the 10.30 am session.
All phonics sessions once uploaded, will be available for the rest of the term, so you can always dip in and out or repeat sessions.
If you are still unsure which sessions to access for your child, please don’t hesitate to email me.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
