Class 1
Welcome to the information page for Class 1! Working in Class 1 is myself: Miss Latham, and Teaching Assistant: Mrs Williams. I hope you find the following information helpful, but please always feel free to ask questions or grab either myself or Mrs Williams for a chat in the mornings or after school.
Reading – It is helpful for parents to read with their child regularly at home, 4 times a week if possible. A short comment in their reading diary acknowledging if/ how your child has read is also informative and a note when the book is finished. We ask that you send your child in with their book and reading diary every day.
Homework
Homework is given out every Friday, to be returned by the following Wednesday. If the homework doesn’t require written work from the children, a short comment about their understanding of the homework can be helpful for us in school. The homework can also be accessed on the class page, where it will be uploaded weekly.
Spellings
Until the Spring term, only Year 1 children in Class 1 will have spellings to take home and learn. These are stuck in their spelling book, where they also have space to practise. It is asked that your child’s spelling book is brought into school on a Friday, so that the new spellings can be stuck in, although the spellings will also be uploaded onto the class page weekly.
PE
PE is on a Tuesday morning every week. PE kits are kept in school and given back half termly, so that they can be washed. Your child’s PE kit should consist of; a blue polo shirt, a pair of shorts, pumps and a pair of outdoor trainers. During the Autumn and Winter months tracksuit bottoms can also be worn. Please make sure that every item is labelled with your child’s name, so that they can be easily returned to the right child.
Forest School
Forest School takes place on every alternate Wednesday afternoon, although it may be called off in extreme weather. We ask that on the day of forest school, you bring in some bottoms and a warm top that your child can get changed into, preferably clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. You may also consider sending in an alternative coat. We are able to provide waterproof trousers for all children to wear over their clothes to keep their home clothes as dry and mud free as possible.
Wellies
Your child should have a pair of wellies to keep at school. These are needed for forest school and lunchtime play on the field. Label them on the inside with your child’s initials.
Snacks and milk
We aim to be able to provide children with a break time snack daily and milk twice weekly. Snacks are always fruit or vegetables. If your child would prefer a snack brought in from home, this is fine. It will be removed from their book bag and given out during morning break.
Water bottles
Children are allowed only water in school, which they have free access to during the day. We ask that no fruit juices or fizzy pops are put in their water bottles.
I hope this has provided you with useful information about our routines and practises in Class 1. I look forward to getting to know you as parents and guardians over the forthcoming year.
Miss Latham.
